I wish I had come with several friends so we could share dishes. Started with egg rolls which were crispy, but not greasy and you could taste all the veggies inside. Good start! I then had the shrimp with lobster sauce, which is a personal favorite. It would be better if fresh mushrooms, carrots, and peas were used, but the sauce was perfect and the shrimp were plump and delicious. Service was quick and attentive even with their phone ringing off the hook. Portions were large so I had plenty left to take home. I will come back and I'll also order from here for lunch for my team at work.

This is definitely one of those places where you have to know the menu, what's good & what's not so hot. Americanized Chinese food. The good: Twice Cooked Pork, Mu Shu Chicken, Yu Hsiang Pork and General Tso's Chicken (deep fried and delicious). Pot stickers are good, especially the ginger soy dipping sauce, but be advised. They ARE NOT like Japanese gyoza. They're much denser and the noodle skin is thick. Forget about anything Hunan and the like here. If you want authentic Hunan or Sichuan go to Monterey Park.

I just picked up dinner at Canton Low. The staff was very friendly and thanked me many times for coming in. I ordered the Orange Chicken and I have to say, it is by far the best Orange Chicken I've ever had. I'm a foodie, so trust me, it's delicious. Back to eating my dinner...

Girls lunch at Canton Low! I've heard about Canton Low several times and so I was super excited when some of my friends suggested a lunch get together here! I had heard good things and was looking forward to trying out a new place for good Chinese food as well as a nice little lunch with the girls. We all decided to get the lunch special, which ranged in price from $8.50 to $8.95. The lunch special comes with hot and sour soup (egg flower join request), egg roll, wonton and choice of fried rice or steamed rice. I chose to get the kung pao chicken with fried rice. The kung pal chicken was different from other kung pao chicken entrees I'd ever had. It had some water chestnuts alongside the peanuts and chili peppers. It was delicious and very good in flavor! I was also impressed with the fried rice that came with the lunch special because it had little pieces of chashu! The fried rice was a good match with the kung pao chicken. In addition to the kung pao chicken, I got to try some of my friends dishes like the sweet and sour pork, beef with broccoli and hot and sour chicken! They were all very good but the kung pao chicken was my favorite! All in all it's good place for Chinese food. Their lunch special prices fare on the higher side compared to some other South Bay Chinese eateries though but then again there aren't too many places for Chinese food in the El Segundo area.

Best freaking Chinese food ever!!!! This is the real deal! Chow mein was unbelievable, king pao shrimp was to die for and the orange peel chicken was the real deal, yes it's a bit pricy but you get what you pay for. You want a party on your taste buds? Then this is the place to go. And the free hot tea? Tell you what, take a bite of the Orange chicken then a sip of the tea and it is magic on your tongue. I'm enjoying my left overs right now!

I had dinner here a few nights ago and have been meaning to write a yelp review. It was delicious just like I remembered. My favorite dishes here are orange chicken, hot and sour soup, garlic string beans, Kung pao chicken, and lemon chicken. It feels like an authentic Chinese restaurant and the food tastes that way too. Every time I'm in the area I make it a point to stop by this restaurant. I love all the remodeling they have done to this place. I can't wait to go back.

Rude people. I went to their website to look at their menu. Then I called to order food and the prices were different from the online menu. I was trying to be nice by telling them that the prices on their website should be changed, and he said that it doesn't matter. IT'S FALSE ADVERTISING! If that's the price you have on your actual website then you should honor it! When someone is trying to be nice by telling you then you shouldn't be rude about it! THEIR FOOD IS AVERAGE - NOTHING SPECIAL. If you want good service and delicious food then go elsewhere

I ordered some spacey items. No spice at all. The Kung pow beef was horrible and flavorless. Not going back again. Sorry

Can you give negative stars??? This place was the worst! From the minute we set foot in the door until we walked out it was a downward spiral. The host and the waitress were very rude. I seriously think there were some racial overtones. Nonetheless, we pressed on. I ordered the chicken broccoli and my boyfriend ordered the broccoli beef from the lunch menu. The meal started with a gelatinous cup of egg drop soup that was completely disgusting. The entree quickly followed. It included salad, fried rice, a wonton and an egg roll. The chicken tasted like it came straight out of the can! It was so unappetizing. The fried rice was hard and bland. The only think I could stomach was the wonton. My boyfriend wasn't making out much better. He advised that he had much different expectations and the meal was subpar to say the least. They quickly brought the bill during our meal. I discreetly spoke to the waiter and advised that I did not enjoy my meal and did not eat. He immediately got defensive and demanded to know what was wrong with the meal. I advised that it wasn't very tasty and the chicken did not seem fresh. They started speaking to each other in Cantonese. I expressed to them that it was rude to start speaking in Cantonese directly in front of us so that we could not understand what they were saying about US. I remained polite and calm during the exchange. Reluctantly, the manager instructed the server to give us 10% off the bill. Given their terrible disposition, my boyfriend refused the discount and requested to pay the bill in full. After paying the bill, we left the restaurant and our plates full of food behind never to look back. Do yourself a favor, go to China Grill instead!

Awesome lunch specials ($6 to $7 range)! Especially for the price. The lunch specials come with soup, salad, fried rice or steamed rice, wonton, and an eggroll. It's A LOT of food. Service is excellent and the place is clean. There is a small parking lot behind the restaurant, but there is also plenty of street parking. Looking for a good place for lunch? Come here!

I ordered the wonton soup here a couple months ago which tasted great. I was really excited to have found a nearby good tasting chinese food place and I felt like I was for sure going back...that is until the next morning when I woke up sick as a dog. At the time I wasn't entirely sure what happened but I suspected food poisoning. Now reading the reviews about the lack of freshness (and when I went there there weren't many customers there) I'm not planning on going back there again. Although it didn't taste rotten, I think the lack of freshness was covered by the broth and seasoning. It definitely didn't taste good enough to go through food poisoning again.

When I moved from Torrance I found myself looking for a new Chinese place. A co-worker recommended Canton Low so I decided to give it a try. Actually I've had Canton Low about 3-4 times now, all of which were take out. The food is fine which is what kept me going back. However, the last couple of times, and actually right no as I'm typing this, I've had difficulty getting through to place my order. In the range of 30-45 minutes, calling every few minutes, the line has been busy. The last time I failed to get through I went into the restaurant to place my order which was inconvenient since I had to sit there waiting for the food to be prepared. What irritated me was that I witnessed one of the workers chatting away on the line. No wonder I couldn't get through. I brushed it off thinking that it was a one-time thing. But today, I'm experiencing the same thing so it wasn't just a one-time thing. This is terrible customer service!

Don't Go Deep-Fried. Sauce and Meat. It's the Future. You simply do not understand how badly I want to give Canton Low five stars. I love them deeply. Their Hunan Chicken is my nectar. It is delicious, but there are rough patches on the menu and the food is sometimes not quite so loved as it should be. Firstly, a lot of complaints that people tend to have about Canton Low is the service. I love the service and I'm probably a regular in there. Hell, they know my order by heart and my girlfriend's at this point. Let's be frank: They are very minimalist in the service. You get the water, you get your order taken, you get your food, you get regular refills in a timely manner. You do not get smiles or laughs or any of that stuff. Some of the locals do, some of them want those things. I do not. I like that I get a polite, if impersonal, meal from Canton Low. In fact, their disinterested but prompt and attentive service is one of the things that keeps me coming back. I don't want to be friends with Cindy from Tulsa who smiles like there's a gun to her head and is SUPER EXCITED ABOUT OUR SPECIALS OHHHHH GOOOOOODDDD KILLLLLL MEEEEEEEE!!!!!11!1!! I can't do that. It's not me. It's not how I eat. I want to talk to the people at my table, not the wait staff. If there is a problem, I will bring it up when the wait staff stops by. I do not need to be asked. I will tell. They ask at Canton Low. Once, then they refill your drinks and bring you your check. It is bare minimum service and BY GOD I LOVE IT. It's a point of disagreement I'm going to have with people who want that sort of service and I understand where they're coming from. Canton Low is a place I go to eat a delicious meal that is the same every time and then I go away from Canton Low and do other things. I am not there for a dining experience. It is what it needs to be for me and I appreciate that. But what is a restaurant except for the food? Let's talk about food. Hunan anything and Yuxiang anything will be delicious. The chicken, the shrimp, the pork. Doesn't matter. Their sauces are amazing and they make the meat amazing. They are not revolutionary or inspired by Neveau Chinese Fusion or whatever. It's a Chinese place with delivery and the food is that food, just done with great sauces. Aside from the meats with sauces, there's the Hot and Sour soup which, some days, is too watery and not flavored strongly enough and other days is among the best Hot and Sour soups I've had, full stop. It's hard to know what it'll be from day to day. Too peppery? Soup perfection? Could be either. Comes included with the lunch special, so who cares? Well, I do. But yeah, it's not going to ruin your meal if it's not spot on at lunch. If you buy it separate, well, sometimes it's not amazing. But sometimes it really, really is. It's a gamble I roll the dice on every time I go. Most times it's great, sometimes no. Still worth the risk. The menu, however, is not without its failings. Since I first ate there some years ago, there has never been a particularly deft hand with the deep-fried pieces of the menu. This is something that is a real shame because many people trying Canton Low for the first time are going to do the American thing and rest on the laurels of Orange/General Tso's chicken or some deep fried something else. I have yet to have a delicious deep fried entry from the Canton Low menu. Just pretend they aren't on there. And if you choose to, know that both the sauce and the batter will be heavy handed and unimpressive. You've been warned. It seems strange, but that's how it is. So obviously with those shortcomings, you can't slap a five up there. I love Canton Low, I moved out of El Segundo to Torrance and I still drive up as much as I can be bothered just to go to Canton Low and get the Hunan Chicken and a big box of white rice. It is a place that is close to my heart for many, many reasons but it's the food that keeps me coming back. Every time I put that first bite of an order of Hunan Chicken into my stupid face, I can't help but smile. It's good, it's warm, and it makes me want more. That's all good food needs to do. Is the entire menu great? No. Is some of it exceptional? Yes. And for an understated places like Canton Low, that'll do. Go there for lunch. Don't get anything fried. You'll be happy.

So we never eat Chinese food even though we love Chinese food. Both of us have lived other places where it's so much better that we can barely stomach it here. My husband refuses to get food from this place so when I happened to walk by during lunch hours today and saw it was packed I threw caution to the wind and ordered up a lunch special. The number one...Sweet and sour pork. Service was gruff and abrupt. I thought it was a great deal around seven dollars for soup, salad, egg roll, wonton, fried rice, and entree. It was in fact a lot of food. Too bad that except for the egg drop soup which was excellent (not too thick like most we've tried in this area) it all tasted old. Wilted lettuce, not fresh meat, dried out rice with hardly any egg or veggies in it. The batter on the pork was so heavily fried it tasted like fair food. Sigh... How I wish there was awesome Chinese around here....

I read the reviews about this place, decided to give it a try myself and I was not disappointed. I ordered the Kung Pao Chicken and it was delicious. The chicken was tender and veggies were crisp. The pan fried noodles with shrimp was also yummy. The shrimp were plump Our waiter was very polite and kept the water topped off. The woman server had a bit of an attitude but she kept her composure under wrap. I would definitely return.

Don't bother. Twice I ordered fried rice to go. It was greasy and with almost no meat. Figured the first time was an off day. Nope. They just suck. Worse, both times I got the stink eye from the staff. I don't need attitude from people I'm giving money to. Won't ever go back. Crappy food from rude people. If you want bad Chinese food, go to Panda Express. Better quality from polite people.

Hands down the best Cantonese food I've ever had. Take it from a girl whose been to Hong Kong. My must have is the wor wonton soup and orange chicken. I know, I know, how original. But hey if it ain't broke don't fix it. Orange chicken is how its supposed to be, crispy and spicy. Egg foo young is also good. All their appetizers are great, crispy and hot as hell. Park in the back down the alley or on the street. Don't get put off by the staff. Chinese are very efficient people, no time for politeness. Just sit and enjoy the authentic food!

Firstly, this place has been newly remodeled, and I have to say...it looks AMAZING. I usually don't care about how a restaurant looks, rather I care more about food quality, but now Canton Low has both - excellent food and a beautiful dining area to compliment the great food. I've eaten here a couple of times now, and I cannot really understand the below reviews regarding the food being bad or terrible. The food at this restaurant doesn't get anymore authentic in my opinion. My Chinese grandfather cooked authentic Chinese food and Canton Low is the only place that can come close to mimicking his delicious dishes. The best dish on the menu is hands down the Orange Chicken. No other spot can compare. Period. If you have something to say otherwise about the Orange Chicken you can meet me out back of Canton Low in the alley and we can further "discuss" the topic. Ya feel me?!? JK, but seriously the Orange Chicken is bomb. I usually don't do this, but I have to address some of the comments below because they are simply LUDICROUS. And I aint talkin about the Hotlanta, GA rapper (actually born and raised in Illinois btw)..... Lauren V. (4/29/2013) - okay so the service sucked, what Chinese restaurant's service doesn't suck? It comes with the territory, if you don't like it I advise you stop eating Chinese food, SON! JK, but seriously, show me a Chinese restaurant that has consistently excellent service AND good food and I'll show you an honest politician! In all seriousness, I agree the service could be better, but one-star, really? Come'on maaaannn! Hell On Wheels B. (2/15/2013) - You would rather eat Panda Express any day over the food served at Canton Low? Really? And let me guess, you would rather eat McDonalds than Five-Guys? Rather eat 7-11 sushi than Sushi-Gen? How about you expound on your ridiculous one liner about how the food sucked? What did you eat? Why did it suck? You've got to have absolutely no taste buds to say that Panda Express is better than Canton Low....either no taste buds or no brain cells. And that's all I have to say about that. Look, this place isn't gonna win a top spot on one of Chef Ramsey's shows anytime soon, but for what it is it's friggin awesome - an inexpensive, authentic Chinese restaurant that serves some of the most delicious Chinese food in Los Angeles. And due to the recent remodel, it has the up to date, fresh, modern decor to go with it.

I had the barbeque pork lo mien lunch special and it was ok. I had the hot and sour soup, fried rice and spring roll with it and it was around $10. The portions are plenty and the service is quick and good. Not bad, not great. Just ok. Come here if you crave a quick $10 Chinese lunch special in downtown El Segundo because there's no other place like it. Seriously, there aren't any Chinese restaurants there! This place gets a bye in Chinese food.

We normally like the food from this place, but tonight the food was hit or miss. The lemon chicken was hard & dry, but the sizzling rice soup was yummy. The main irritation tonight was that the delivery guy was a major jerk! This is the second time he has been to our house demanding more money for a tip. That is completely unacceptable! I'm sure we are not the only people he has done this too. I don't want to be harassed by a random delivery person for money. Thanks to this delivery guy Canton Low just lost 2 households of customers. We will take our business elsewhere & happily tip a gracious delivery person well.

Good is just a notch below Little Asia (RIP). Lunch specials are a good variety but about $2-$3 above what Little Asia charged. The dumbest thing is only one person in the restaurant can take orders. If there's a big group of people ahead of you you have to wait your turn. This is bad in my case because my lunch is only from 11-12. Today's wait? 25 minutes! :( I even asked the 3 other waiters if they could just tell the kitchen to start making a lunch special Kung Pow chicken. Their response? NOPE! Wait your turn. So IF you have time to burn and want ok Chinese Canton Low is OK.

Hi Chinese Food Fanatics: We foodies in LA know that there are few really worthy Chinese restaurants, although there are so many great Thai restaurants. Well, here is a sleeper in the little El Segundo area (just north of Hermosa Beach, near LAX). Its a cozy spot in a really cute neighborhood...The food is really really good, authentic old school Chinese. Try the Steamed Fish with Ginger and Scallions, or Shrimp and Lobster Sauce...or their Egg Foo Young...its just all really delicious. The Young Chow Fried Rice is fantastic: they make it with Chicken, Shrimp, and Pork (or beef) and NO SOY SAUCE. We always ask them to add extra egg....great WonTon soup as well. Seriously good Chinese, at a moderate price. Check it out!

Been here many times before not the greatest but for a quick fix it does the job...ordered for delivery yesterday and what a disappoint the driver was very RUDE and exclaimed that the tip was not enough WTH !!! The food was a bigger disappointment did not taste FRESH at all, and come to think of it took a little bit to have it show up as well. Sorry Canton Low...just might have to go elsewhere for Chinese food :-(

We always have great food and service at this place. We discovered it a couple years back after we moved to Los Angeles area and we go back periodically for the good food, especially the Sizzling Rice Soup. You just gotta try it! Mouth watering stuff.

PRETTY GOOD KUNG PAO CHICKEN !! PRETTY GOOD MONGOLIAN BEEF ! Glad I found this place in the South Bay. I don't have to drive to Arcadia or Gardena any longer, lol. Service was nice and the server checked on us twice. The bill with tea and rice and two dishes was $23 bucks. Excellent. Nice Decor , Easy Parking and Comfy and the food is tasty !

Went to lunch here with a co-worker. I ordered the lunch special with the spicy Hunan beef with broccoli and onions and fried rice. They started off with the hot n sour soup. The soup was ok, nothing special. The spicy beef was tender, but unfortunately there wasn't much of it. Mainly broccoli and a few scattered onions. The meal also came with hot tea and a vegetable spring roll. The spring roll was very basic with cabbage inside. This place isn't too exciting, but my co-worker seems to enjoy it so I just tag along. Very average.

Stopped by for lunch w/co-worker who was in the mood for "bad" Chinese food. And Canton Low delivers. They have a few lunch special options for every affordable prices ($7-10). We ordered our food off their lunch menu and got our soups right away. I have to deduct a star for finding a weird aluminum foil wrap in my soup, which was already very salty. Otherwise I suppose it was okay. Water and tea are customary and were refilled through the quick meal. And when I say quick, I mean it. Our food came out super quickly! I ordered the bbq pork lo mein and coworker ordered the sweet & sour chicken. The lunch combo comes in as a bento box style combination: salad, rice (fried or steamed white), egg roll, your dish and aforementioned soup. It tasted very decent for what it was. Nothing extraordinary, but for about the same money I'd rather just go down to Big Wok. Our bill was just shy of $15 w/o tip. Extra point for having street parking out front and a few dedicated spots in the back.

The food was very mediocre. We were hoping for a good chinese food close to home. The beef with snowpeas was stringy and tasteless, the rest of it was just ok. My 7yo hated it. We will eat the leftovers because we paid for them and they are edible. But we will never go back. I would rather eat at Panda Express than this place.

It's cheap and better than anywhere in Manhattan Beach, so I'll make the small trek down the road for pickup (they don't deliver that far) over crappy delivery food most days. The moo shoo chicken is amazing, and they accomodate my request for easy-on-the-oil without any of the snide-ness normally found with requested changes. The soup is slightly too salty (Chinese food already has so much that there's no need to over-salt anything). The guy is nice and friendly when I go in for pickup. This is my new go-to Chinese!

Pros: You get a good amount of food, enough for 2 people. Cons:The name "low" applies to the quality of food Living in downtown El Segundo, it was only a matter of time before I tried this place. I had a craving for chinese food one night, and since it was only walking distance from where I live, I'd figure I'd try it out. Ordered the orange chicken, and mixed vegetables. After a couple of bites of both, I ended up throwing it out. The "chicken" was nothing more than parts of chicken. .mostly it was batter that had been fried several times, judging from the texture. The vegetables. .well, it was cabbage mixed with another type of vegetable. .and both had black spots all over. . Bottom line: You're better off saving your time and money, and going to another place.

Okay so even though I can't stand the owner...my work still orders from them. We love the food and almost everything we order is good. I love the kung pao chicken and I use my own brown rice. My friends like the wonton soup as well as several other dishes. The price is not bad and the delivery guy is really nice. It's just the owner that I cant stand. He is super rude and several times has rushed me when I'm ordering. I had to let him have IT!

YUCKKK!!! I am a local and ate here one time...and one time only. The food was absolutely disgusting. I would eat Panda Express any day over the food served at Canton Low. The other disturbing factor is how they proudly display their American flag...rolled up in the corner. I can't think of a more horrible experience (eating nasty Chinese food while staring at our beautiful country's flag folded up in the corner). Sigh.

Best shrimp noodle soup in the world! Why is it so good? Because the shrimp is flash stir-fried in garlic before it is placed into the soup (most other places simply put raw or pre-cooked shrimp into the soup unseasoned. The noodles are lo-mein style, not the thin egg noodle type. And the broth is very flavorful. Staff is always great.

Everyone knows about their delicious orange chicken but my favorite is the lemon chicken! (and their sweet & spicy chicken) Every time before or after my business trips I try to make a stop at Canton Low. The restaurant has been opened for over 20 years I believe. One of my favorite places to eat at in El Segundo, IF YOU HAVEN'T TRIED IT, I SUGGEST YOU GIVE IT A TRY! They offer really good deals and excellent food Thanks!

The only Chinese food in downtown El Segundo, but it's all the city needs. Excellent string beans, wor wonton soup, general tso's chicken, and mongolian beef. If you have never had their string beans, you are missing out!! They're always cooked perfectly and come in an addicting garlic/soy sauce. I just make a meal of the soup and beans when ordering take-out. Coupons are always readily available for 15-20% off dine in or take out orders and the prices are reasonable to begin with. Friendly and speedy staff! Delivery is also an option.

Worst Chinese restaurant Ever!!! Not only was the waiter completely awful but after waiting over an hour for our food to come out (watching several people come in after us, eat, then leave) the food was far from good. I will never come back here again.

  • Mike W.

I think I give Chinese places an unfair advantage in reviews since I expect piss poor service and this place isn't an exception (sort of). The food is OK nothing to brag about (the sour soup is rather goopy tho) and the service was typical Chinese; nonchalant - stating your request several times and not so much as a nod or wink of acknowledgment when several moments later your water appears or whatever you asked for. However, kudos to this place in that their service isn't as bad as some Chinese places I've been (Lordy don't even get me started about service at dim sum places). Anyway, in conclusion, this place is OK to satisfy your Chinese food cravings; service is acceptable (on a bell curve) and the food is OK.

Our friend came into town and took us to this amazing place last night. I've been looking for a good Chinese restaurant and finally this is it!!! The service was great and came with a smile every time. The atmosphere was very nice as well. They had a TV but the sound was off -- awesome!!!

This place reminds me of the local Chinese restaurant me and my dad would go when we couldn't agree on anything else. It's fast, greasy, flavorful, and has big portions, which is everything I want/need in my Chinese food experience. My go to dish is the Moo Goo Gai Pan which is white meat chicken, snow peas, and mushrooms, but instead of a dark sauce, it's more of a starchy white salty sauce. I usually just get it to go, because the inside is your typical kind of depressing, wouldn't have a big party there, weird colored Chinese restaurant. Once in a while I go there with my bf and we get the family dinner that comes with soup, appetizers (chicken wrap, egg rolls, fried shrimp, and salad), and two entrees. It is super filling when you're ridiculously hungry. I haven't had anything I hated, and all the chicken meat is white meat which is a plus for me. I live very close by and like to support local businesses, so I go here when I can, but it's not that high on my go to places in the area.

Let me just say, they aren't lying when they named it 'Canton Low.' Lowest quality "Chinese" food in El Segundo. Which is probably a compliment. Anyway, here's a clever way to remember not to go to Canton Low. "Low is a no-go" If you're really aching for some "Chinese" food in El Segundo, you might as well drive down Sepulveda to the Panda Express in MB. Tips: Hot and Sour soup shouldn't have the viscosity of dirty old motor oil.

Another little trip to a strange land. Came over about 7:30 pm straight from the airport. There were a few folks eating and a steady pickup and deliver service continued while I was there. I was greeted and seated. My drink order was taken and drink was delivered (iced tea). Not wishing to go too crazy tonight I ordered the beef chop suey and the mapo tofu. Both items came out and both tasted really good. Actually, compares very favorably to my hometown. My server was as attentive as I would have liked - even refilled my drink before I even thought to ask. She even packed up the leftovers and provided a plasticware kit for me. What more could you want? Good, tasty, hot, seemed clean, bright. Ok, one little thing- the beef in the chop suey wasn't the most tender I've ever had. And this place is just around the corner from my favorite local hotel not to mention there's a few other little places along the street that look interesting for another trip.

Nice and cheap. Perfect for lunch. You get a lot as far as the portion. Soup salad whole nine yards.

Mediocre chinese food. The place is cramped and not very clean inside.

I have been going to Canton Low for several years, and also do not get the negative reviews here. The food here is delicious and authentic.Their lunch specials are the best - yummy food that is inexpensive. I usually get the Yu Hsiang Pork or Shrimp with Lobster Sauce. I am a slow eater, and just impressed how the food stays hot on your plate 20 minutes later! Sometimes we order the Wor Wonton Soup - this is probably the best one I have had. The broth is delicious, and it is filled with meat - shrimp, chicken, BBQ pork and beef. My mouth is watering as I type! As for service, it is much better today than over ten years ago. The staff is friendlier, they remembers regulars and what they typically order. The recent remodel freshened up this place as well. Another thing that stands out about Canton Low ishow quickly they turn around your order. It is one of the best Chinese restaurants in the South Bay, and my coworkers get thrilled when we go there!

Tried this restaurant the other night. I was pleasantly surprised. I got the mongolian shrimp and the chow mein. I totalley loved it! The chow mein was the best. I loved the noodles they used. I have had a fair share of Chinese food and I must say it's pretty authentic. I can't wait to go back! Prices were a little high but not too bad!

    Good food, price is ok.

Pretty average Chinese food, just seems like no other Chinese restaurants in the area. I only come here for lunch and it seems like they only have 10 items they serve on the lunch special menu. The hot and sour soup that comes with the lunch is good, just a little odd that it is kind of gelatin like almost.

Kung pao chicken is the best in LA.

I am going to agree with the El Monte reviewer who said " let me just say, they aren't lying when they named it 'Canton Low.' Lowest quality "Chinese" food in El Segundo" I am just guessing it is probably the only Cantonese chinese place in El Segundo, which is why a sign in the front of their store reads "Best Chinese Food". We stopped here tonite on the way home from a beach day. Thought we might finally find some decent chinese food in El Segundo, since we have only found one Chinese place we really like in our part of Culver City/L.A (Linn's Chinese on Pico Blvd - it's good, not much atmosphere, but good fresh ingredients and friendly service!). The Chicken with garlic and ginger (Haistin Chicken, or something like that ??) tasted mostly like vinegar, had very little sauce or flavor, though it had nice white chicken pieces in it with lots of broccoli. The Orange Beef tasted like cracklins. My husband ordered that dish and he said "Where's the beef?!". It was just super dry, super fried to death pieces of tiny crunchy dough. Final killer was the nasty bathroom that I couldn't even stand to use. I left this restaurant with a bad taste in my mouth, and hardly enjoyed a good taste at all while I was there except for the Jasmine tea and the bottle of Tsing Tao. Perhaps you have to know what to order, but we asked the waitress (we said we wanted spicy and we liked ginger and garlic) and she pretty much just kept saying everything was good. We have eaten Chinese food from the East to West coast and know decent Chinese from poor quality and we won't be going this LOW again!

Good food, great prices and excellent service. I've eaten here for lunch and Dinner. Lunch specials are a grat value, Dinner is a little more expensive but the food and portions are good value for the money.

BY FAR the BEST orange chicken EVER! I grew up in the San Gabriel Valley so I definitely know what good Chinese food is. I live on the East coast now but whenever I travel back to Los Angeles I ALWAYS make sure to get my orange chicken fix at Canton Low. I also recommend the hot and sour soup and the lemon chicken. The food is great and very affordable!

This place we call lovingly cheap Chinese!! That's because it's cheap Chinese food! We come to canton low for lunch and it has about 10 lunch specials for about 7 bucks. The favorite of the group is Kung pao chicken, you get hot and sour soup to start and with every lunch special you get rice (white or fried), salad and a vegetable egg roll and a wonton. The food here won't win any culinary prizes but it's a decent place for a quick lunch.

This is a solid place for a quick, affordable lunch. Service is good (no need to ask for water refills, they are on the ball) and the food is pretty tasty. I haven't ordered off their regular menu but they have a typical Chinese lunch special - entree (15 choices or so), fried or steamed rice, hot & sour soup, eggroll, fried wonton and a small salad for $7 or $8. With tea and a fortune cookie, that's a pretty good deal! It's not upscale dining but it's not a crappy take-out joint, either. They might even show games at dinner but I'm not sure - the big screen tv is usually off when I go at lunchtime.

Visited for the first time earlier this week and was pleased with my lunch. Service was friendy and quick, and we enjoyed our food. I ordered the Sweet & Sour Pork lunch special and it was delicious (I'm surprised to read that someone got sick from it more than once). My friend had the Pork Lo Mein lunch and that was delicious as well. The restaurant is not fancy and did smell of grease when we first entered. However, if you're not looking for anything extravagant and craving basic chinese food, this is a great affordable place for lunch.

Just an average Chinese place. Definitely overpriced with unimpressive portions, even compared to others in the south bay. Typical service, which isn't much of an issue for me. Only three stars because the prices are a little high and the food is definitely nothing special. Would much rather go to places in Hawthorne, Torrance or even San Gabriel if I'm craving chinese food.

  • Gloria H.

Super rude staff!!! Food was actually not too great but the star goes for the rudeness and for my hunger for a side menu!!! Yes a damn side menu like express chinese!!! They would make more money for a new business decor off sides then trying to make you buy a whole other plate order of food. Sorry to sound nasty but they need some business skills.... Really wont go to sit there again because of the rudeness. Ill go to the next chinese food place in town hm!

This place is a piece of shit, if you are Latino or Black don't even think about coming here. My family and I use to go here for years because the food was decent but there is one rude, racist, always on her rag bitch who treated us like shit for years. I finally had enough and I cursed her out recently, I will never come here again.

  • Kyle F.

"Courtesy costs nothing" was my fortune cookie here. I found this kind of ironic because I've never had a server treat me with any type of courtesy. Don't get me wrong, the food is okay and the prices are decent. Just not sure why the servers always act like they are doing me a favor.

I used to go here frequently, over a decade ago. Before they closed down and then reopened. The food was much better back then and now its just blah.

Very good - always available seating during lunch - but adequately attended so there's no worry (why am I the only one here?) Lunch specials are always tasty and affordable. The service is splendid. The environs are attractive, everyone seems satisfied with their choices - I certainly always have been. The hot-sour soup, while well constructed, is not the best of the species, nor the best choice... get the egg-drop (egg-flower). parking at rear and in front, but recommend you take the lunch shuttle from Aerospace to the downtown area...wasy and free!

Great service, really quick and great lunch specials. The best Kung Pao Chicken I have had, and love the hot and sour soup.

Only place on the west side (that I've been to) that had General Tso's Chicken that was prepared properly. Eaten there twice already and both times the food was cheap and delicious. (although I am sure that, like most Chinese food restaurants, tastiness depends on which cook is in the kitchen).

A coworker and I went here for lunch. The place was busy. Not much to offer in terms of decor or service. But the prices were very reasonable, and the food was served fresh and hot! It's a good call if you're looking for a quick chinese fix.

Canton Low is one of those hole in the wall establishments. I probably would've never stepped foot into this place if it wasn't for my friend Eric L. I go here each time im near LAX. From the outside Canton Low may seem like any other Chinese restaurant. You know the saying "Never judge a book by its cover.." well thats pretty much what Canton Low is all about. but once you pass through their heavy glass swinging door, you will be bombarded by the lovely aroma coming from their kitchen. Closest thing i can relate this to is for example when you pass by an In N Out where the aroma of their food literally just hits you in the face. YUMM right?? Their food is served QUICK and HOT. I ordered the baked pork chop rice and my friend Eric ordered some Beef Chow Fun. When my order arrived i could see the cheese still bubbling... thats when you know the food is HOT OUT OF THE OVENN!!. my first bite was so orgasmic it was nearly indescribable. All i can say is that the food here is to die for!!! its THAT gooooood! The only bad thing is that they are closed on Sundays. There has been times where I would be craving Canton Low after church services.

Too Pricey for the actual quality of the food. Hot and sour soup is very bland...had to add siracha to give it some zing. Egg rolls are also bland. You get a lot of food, but it is not worth it. we only came here because it was close, but we'll make the drive next time for better food.

Just ate here with my Family. Not that great actually and I was disappointed. LowMein with shrimp had 7 shrimp in total - size were medium but more Low Mein than shrimp and for 10$ it was not worth the plate. Fried Rice is actually brown rice and absolutely no taste. Beef & Broccoli was decent with even portions of meat and vege's. Service was OK - a bit pushy and very difficult to understand them. Worst is having had to be in the bathroom for the last hour now after eating there - yes 4 out of 6 of us.... I live in El Segundo and I love my town but we could do without this type of restaurant here. Recommend a pass if you care to keep "food" in after you eat.

Better than takeout but below regular chinese restaurant. Ordered the house special noodles. Food came out really fast with ample amount of noodles, beef, chicken, shrimp. Food for others came out a bit slower. Service could be more courteous but not really expected: we did get the condiments we asked for but didn't know if they actually heard us when we asked for them. Minuses: one pesky fly buzzing around the table; sticky plastic covering on table. If only Sam Woo or some other similar place would setup shop in El Segundo then we'd have more lunch choices for chinese food.

Just ordinary. I have eaten here since the sixties, and it used to be very good. In the last year or two, they have gone downhill, and have become hit or miss, mostly miss. I still go there if a friend requests, but do not choose it on my own any more.

  • Eric H.

Canton Low is a good name for it. I agree with Good E, hit and miss food. I got sick on the wonton soup, but have had a few exceptable meals. I have a co-worker who insists on going there

Excellent food, service, and value. This place has been consistently good for the 15+ years I've been eating there. Never had a bad meal. Highlights: BBQ Pork Lo Mein, Kung Pao Chicken, Wonton Soup, and all of the dinner appetizers.

I've only eaten here for lunch... My office moved to El Segundo and lunch after lunch I struck out trying to find the Chinese Food Trifecta: tasty, abundant and cheap. While Canton Low is not quite as cheap as some places on the West Side, I was thrilled to finally find a Chinese restaurant to my liking. Which means they start you with a hot and sour soup. Hot tea. Your meal comes with an eggroll and a wonton. And of course a fortune cookie. They're super nice, with all the workers repeatedly asking how you're doing. The water glass seems bottomless, with all their perfectly timed refillings. And... OK, that's all. No wait! You can sit outside. Parking is easy. And there's a farmer's market there Thursdays or Wednesdays, I forget which. So, if you're looking for decent Chinese food in good quantities with nice service, you'll be pleasantly surprised by Canton Low.

wow, everything here is sub par. absolutely no reason to dine in, horrible decor, id rather be sitting in a mcdonalds. they have christmas lights and those cheap light up paintings you find at swapmeets hanging all around the walls. picknik flower print table cloths... Food is ok, but honestly, id rather get some panda express.

  • Good E.

Well, this place as been in El Segundo for a long time, the food is hit or miss and the customer service is bad. In three separate occasions the sweet and sour pork has made the customer sick. The last time the wife and I ate there the service was so bad we have not returned and have no plans too. Another case of bad management, never let the staff control your business.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
